Toh Mee Navhech..

Sad News - Renowned Theatre Actor Prabhakar Panshikar is No More....


Born on March 14, 1931, Panshikar, in a career spanning over 50 tireless years, acted in over 8,000 shows of plays in Marathi, Gujarati and Kannada languages. Few of the Many famous plays which he has acted are 'Bhatala Dili Osari', To Mee Navech, Ithe Oshalla Mrutyu, Ashrunchi Jhali Phule, 'Thank You Mr Glad' and 'Jevha Gavtala Bhale Phuttat'. Some of the plays produced by him include 'Sangeet Madanachi Manjiri', 'Sangeet Suvarna Tula', 'Katyar Kaljat Ghusli', 'Andhar Maza Sobati', 'Kimayagar' and 'Putrakameshti'.

In 1962, Panshikar got the lead role in a new play called 'To Mee Navech'. The character of 'Lakhoba Lokhande' gave him immense fame and recognition among critics. He was known latter by the same name in Marathi Play industry. The play went on to earn tremendous acclaim for the next four decades. 'To Mee Navech' is probably the first play in the world where the same actor had to do five completely different roles, not to merely add to novelty value or as a stunt, but because the story demanded it. The play used 'a revolving stage' for the first time in Marathi theatre. At the age of 31 Panshikar started playing lakhoba Lokhande and it went on till he was 72 even though he had a bypass surgery.

He was honored by many awards, also 'Maharashtra Bhushan' puraskaar and
First Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar of State Govt., Maharashtra, later this award was named Prabhakar Panshikar award.

Whole Marathi Rangabhumi is going to miss this great actor, he has created a void and that corner will always remain empty.
